Northeast Oregon has been home for Julian since 2002, originally moving to La Grande to pilot an air ambulance. Several seasons work as a Wilderness Ranger, some guiding, and mountaineering trips to Nepal, New Zealand, and Colorado have given Julian a diverse taste of the high mountains. With a degree in Environmental Planning, he started his career as a technical writer for California Department of Fish and Game. Thinking the views would be better, Julian shifted his career toward aviation, with various jobs taking him from living in South Korea to the plains of Kansas.
Julian and his ever supportive wife, Diane, enjoy the small town living and access to the mountains that eastern Oregon offers. Backcountry skiing led to a natural interest in avalanches and involvement as a board member of the Wallowa Avalanche Center. Julian has worked several seasons with the ECX in communications and avalanche safety management, where he also brought his background as a search manager with Union County search and rescue.
In his spare time he flys a 737 for a major airline.
